St Bridget’s Cross on Chain

Sterling silver cross pendant on 18” snake chain.

An enduring part of our culture is the weaving of the St. Bridgets Cross from rushes on the eve of Lá Fhéile Bhríde, the 1st February. The cross is hung in the home to protect it from fire and evil. It takes many forms, examples of which are on display in the National Museum of Ireland.

This pendant is 28mm in length.

about the Designer

Breda Haugh

While studying in NCAD, Dublin I was introduced to metals as a medium for expression. Marrying a childhood curiosity around culture to this material was fascinating to me.  Exploring the symbolic and fun nature of jewellery rather rapidly became my creative output influenced by my studies. Soon after Breda Haugh Jewellery was formed.
